The Baggies were unchanged from the team which thrashed Portsmouth 5-0 at the weekend with Danny Dichio and Darren Moore both unfit to take the field, however we survived a barrage of shots to keep out Preston and stay on level terms after a goalless first 45 minutes at Deepdale.

The home side had numerous chances, but failed to force Baggies keeper Russell Hoult into a single save as a lack of killer instinct hampered David Moyes' side. The Baggies had only Adam Chambers' long-range effort to show for a half in which they rarely threatened.

The second-half began in a flurry of penalty box activity with both sides missing penalties. Early in the second period Scott Dobie wriggled clear only to be pulled down by Gregan and Dobie picked himself to continue The Baggies wretched luck from the penalty spot smashing his effort against the crossbar. Dobie then screwed another effort just wide as the baggies flew out of the traps and then it was Preston's turn to miss from the spot.

Cresswell worked himself free in the penalty area only to be pulled down and the striker mirrored Dobie's effort from 12 yards, seeing his effort come back of the bar

Preston were aware that time was running out for them to earn a Division One play-off spot and they pushed forward from the kick-off, creating the first opening after six minutes. Robert Edwards' corner fell to Sean Gregan on the edge of the box, but from a difficult position the midfielder sliced the ball over the bar.

Thordur Gudjonsson also saw a long-range effort drift away from Hoult's goal while Michael Keane flashed a volley into the crowd following Chris Lucketti's cross.
Scott Dobie was then shown a yellow card for a crunching challenge on Lucketti as West Brom struggled to get into the match.
Jon Macken also failed to test Hoult from a decent position as his 20-yard drive went the wrong side of the post.

The Baggies finally forced a corner on the half-hour mark but Neil Clement's delivery was easily cleared by Edwards, and moments later the Baggies defender scuffed a poor strike off target.

Eight minutes before the interval Chambers came close to opening the scoring with a vicious effort from outside the box which David Lucas did well to smother. On the stroke of half-time Gary Megson made an unwanted change when prolific forward Jason Roberts limped off injured and was replaced by Bob Taylor.
